Local News in Brief : Shelters Stay Open Till Sunday Morning
Homeless shelters in the city of Los Angeles will be remain open through Sunday morning as a result of a new Community Development Department policy.
Under the policy, vouchers for hotel rooms will be distributed to homeless families with children, and the Downey, Central, Elysian Park and Elysian Valley recreation centers and the National Guard armories in Van Nuys and West Los Angeles will be opened.
As many as 2,000 people a night last weekend may have been given shelter under the program, but exact figures were unavailable.
