Woman Beat Son to Get Drug Money, Police Say

PHILADELPHIA —
A woman accused of beating her 10-year son with a metal pipe to get money for cocaine was arraigned Friday on assault, theft and child endangerment charges, police said.
Police said Joanne Oliphant, 29, beat her son Jermaine, until he gave her $11 he earned washing cars. She then left him in their home while she went out searching for a drug dealer, police said.
