SAN DIEGO — Branko Segota, red-hot since returning from an injury, had 2 goals and 2 assists and the San Diego Sockers scored the last 5 goals to beat the Los Angeles Lazers, 6-2, Sunday night in a Major Indoor Soccer League game.
Segota, idle for 9 games earlier this season with a hamstring injury, has 8 goals and 8 assists in the 8 games since his return.
During that span, the Sockers have gone 6-2 to improve to 9-9.
Brian Quinn scored for the first time in 7 games to pull San Diego into a 2-2 tie with 2:38 left in the first half.
San Diego went ahead, 3-2, at 12:25 of the third period when Segota assisted on Zoran Karic’s second goal of the game.
The Sockers finished the scoring in the final period with Segota’s 2 goals, including a penalty kick, and a goal by Ralph Black.
Lazers defender Fernando Clavijo received the automatic red-card ejection for his third penalty with 1:08 remaining, setting up Segota’s penalty kick.
The Lazers (8-11) were outshot, 39-18. Los Angeles goalkeeper Jim Gorsek made 23 saves while the Sockers’ Victor Nogueira, who blanked the Lazers during the last 39:29, had 10 stops.
