Jim Gabarra of the Los Angeles Lazers scored 2 goals as the United States beat Italy, 4-1, and advanced to the second round of the first-ever World Indoor Soccer Championship at Arnhem, Netherlands.
It is the first time since 1930 that the U.S. advanced to the second round of a tournament conducted by FIFA, the International Federation of Assn. Football, which is soccer’s world governing body.
