Radiant Technology Plans March Move to Anaheim

Radiant Technology Corp. of Cerritos will move its furnace- and oven-making operations to Anaheim in March, company officials said Monday.

“We found a facility that very closely matches our needs,” Mark Kelly, company president, said. While Orange County’s high housing costs and tight employment market are a barrier to many businesses, the twin terrors “are not that much of a factor for us,” he said. “After all, we’re on the Orange County border now.”

Radiant makes infrared furnaces and ovens used in the microelectronics industry. Its products are aimed at industry areas including the printed circuit board and semiconductor markets, Kelly said.

The company will move from its 15,000- to 20,000-square-foot plant in Cerritos to a 55,000-square-foot facility on which it has a 5-year lease. The move will enable the company to double its production capacity, Kelly said.

But the move will not add an abundance of jobs to the Orange County labor market. Kelly said that his 17-year-old firm currently employs about 85 workers, most of whom will probably stay with the firm.

In addition, the company will probably add about 15 workers in the coming year.

“We have people in Long Beach, and they may not come with us,” Kelly said. “We’re investigating transportation situations for them. I expect we’ll be hiring people in the east Anaheim area.”

The company reported net income of $298,000 for the 1988 fiscal year ended Sept. 30, more than double the $122,900 posted in fiscal 1987. Radiant’s revenue for the fiscal year rose to $6.6 million, up 8% from the $6.1 million reported for the year earlier.

Radiant stock is traded over the counter.
