Local News in Brief : Countywide : Dornan Switches to Seat on Armed Services Panel
Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove) has been named to the House Armed Services Committee, filling a seat vacated by Rep. Robert E. Badham (R-Newport Beach), who has retired.
The seat is traditionally held by a Republican representative from California, where many military industries and bases are located. The committee oversees the Department of Defense and national security issues.
To accept the post, Dornan had to relinquish his seats on the Foreign Affairs and the Veteran Affairs committees. He will retain his spot on the Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control.
Dornan was first elected to the House in 1976 and served three terms representing a West Los Angeles area district. He was elected to his current post, representing the 38th Congressional District, in 1984.
Dornan was a pilot in the Air Force in the 1950s and served in the Air Force Reserve in 1958-75.
