Share

A Los Angeles Superior Court jury of seven women and five men was selected and sworn in late Tuesday to decide the fate of “Night Stalker” suspect Richard Ramirez.

Ramirez is accused of murdering 13 county residents in a string of nighttime attacks, mostly in 1985. Ramirez’s trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 23.

Starting this morning, lawyers in the case are to begin picking 12 more people to serve as alternate jurors in the trial, which is expected to last at least one year.

Of the 12 jurors, six are Latinos and six are black. One issue during jury selection, which began July 21, was whether any of the prospective jurors harbor racial prejudice against Latinos.
