Share

Funeral services will be held today for Harold J. Hacker, a Knott’s Berry Farm glass blower for 22 years whose works are on display at the Smithsonian Institution.

Hacker died Saturday at age 82.

Hacker learned to blow glass at age 11 in his native West Virginia and developed a national reputation. He was hired by the Buena Park theme park in 1948 and remained there until 1970, when he left to form his own business selling glass and glass-blowing equipment in Buena Park.

The Buena Park resident also developed a technique for placing blown-glass animals and flowers inside glass paperweights, with parts of the animals blown as fine as thread. His works are also on display at the Corning Glass Museum in Corning, N.Y.
