A 3-year-old Pico Rivera girl was hospitalized in critical condition here Thursday after a two-car, multiple-injury crash on Interstate 5 north of Oceanside, authorities said.

Children’s Hospital spokesman Mark Morelli said Kathy Zapata was on a life-support system.

Her mother, Laura Zapata, had pulled her Honda over to the median with car trouble shortly after 11 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP said Zapata and another passenger were at a call box when a Jeep Cherokee smashed into the Zapatas’ car, injuring Olivia Vasquez and Olivia Tobias, both adults, and Kathy Zapata. Vasquez was hospitalized in critical condition. Tobias’ condition was not determined.
