IN BRIEF : Samuel Gets $2.8-Million Deal
Outfielder Juan Samuel has agreed to a two-year, $2.8-million guaranteed contract, the Philadelphia Phillies announced today, leaving the National League club with seven potential arbitration cases.
The five-year veteran, who is moving from second base to the outfield this year, batted .243 in 157 games with 12 homers, 67 RBI and a club-high 33 stolen bases.
Samuel, 28, has a career .264 average with 92 homers, 393 RBI and 238 stolen bases. After playing second base all his professional career, Samuel started one game at third and three in the outfield late last season. He is working in the Dominican Republic on his outfield play.
