Unapologetic Boonville editor Bruce Anderson has begun serving a 55-day jail sentence for socking a school administrator during a board meeting in Pt. Arena. Anderson, 48, entered the Mendocino County jail in Ukiah rather than write an apology to the people of the county. Probation, which Anderson refused, would also have meant paying a $400 fine and promising to stay away from meetings of the county Board of Education, where the editor knocked down a county school superintendent for allegedly calling him “a third-rate McCarthyite.” Anderson was found guilty of disturbing the peace. The banner headline in this week’s edition of Anderson’s newspaper, the Anderson Valley Advertiser said: “Free the Boonville One.”
