Sergei Bubka of the Soviet Union, the Olympic pole vault champion, won the third Gold Pole indoor event by clearing 18 feet 8 1/4 inches at Barcelona, Spain.

Scott Davis and Philippe Collet of France both cleared 18-0 1/2, Davis taking second place on fewer misses. Vasili Bubka, Sergei’s brother, was fourth at 17-8 1/2, followed by Mike Tully, also at 17-8 1/2.
