Local News in Brief : Armory Open Tonight in Shelter Program

The Van Nuys National Guard Armory will be open tonight as a shelter for the homeless.

The armory, at 17330 Victory Boulevard, will be open after 6 p.m. Transportation to the armory from other parts of the San Fernando Valley is available.

Vouchers good at local hotels and motels also will be given to homeless families with children and to adults with special needs. The Valley’s shelter program takes effect whenever temperatures are expected to dip below 40 degrees, or below 50 degrees with at least a 50% chance of rain.


Temperatures are expected to drop below 40 degrees in the Valley tonight.
