Human rights activist Andrei D. Sakharov was nominated as a parliamentary candidate for a Moscow district today amid an outcry over his surprise rejection by the leadership of the Academy of Sciences two days before.

Workers at Moscow’s Lebedev Physics Institute nominated the physicist and Nobel Peace laureate for the Oktyabrskaya district of the Soviet capital by more than 1,500 votes in favor and 22 against, according to people who attended a meeting there. The Academy’s Presidium on Wednesday rejected Sakharov and more than 100 other candidates without first consulting ordinary members. (Story, Page 16.)
