A nude man shouting “Hail Satan” as he strolled through a popular Malibu beachfront restaurant was arrested and later linked to a fatal hit-run crash, authorities said Sunday.

Brian L. Harlow, 28, of Malibu, allegedly was driving a stolen pickup truck involved in a Pacific Coast Highway crash minutes before the Friday night restaurant escapade that led to his arrest, California Highway Patrol Officer Monte Keifer said.

Harlow, hospitalized briefly for observation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, was booked for investigation of murder and was being held without bail Sunday at the Los Angeles County Jail, Keifer said.

Five minutes after entering the Charthouse restaurant yelling “Hail Satan,” he walked through the crowded bar to an outside patio and down to a rocky outcropping on the beach, where he was detained by authorities.

A stolen pickup truck Harlow reportedly left running in the restaurant parking lot was involved in a fatal accident Friday night in Corral Canyon, said CHP Officer Richard Perez. “The pickup driver hit a motorcycle from behind, rear-ended it, then kept going,” the officer said.

The 22-year-old passenger on the motorcycle, a recently discharged sailor from Norfolk, Va., was killed. Identification was withheld until relatives could be contacted. The motorcyclist suffered minor injuries, Perez said.
