Nation : Boy, 8, Fatally Shoots Sister, 6

From Times wire services

An 8-year-old boy shot and killed his 6-year-old sister, apparently after she scolded him for handling the family’s handgun, Fairfax County police said today.

The girl was shot in the forehead at about 2:30 p.m. Monday at the home the children shared with their grandmother and uncle, said police spokeswoman Judy Duff. The girl was taken to Fairfax Hospital, where X-rays showed that a bullet was lodged in her brain. Doctors declared her dead at 6:40 p.m. Police spokesman Warren Carmichael said the girl’s death will be classified as a homicide. A decision on whether to bring charges will be made by Commonwealth’s Atty. Robert F. Horan Jr.
