Nation : Bush to Visit Canada’s Mulroney; Acid Rain Likely to Be on Agenda
President Bush will travel to Ottawa on Feb. 10 for a day of talks with Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, his first trip outside the United States as President, the White House announced today.
In a brief statement, the White House said the two men would “discuss bilateral and international issues of common concern” and that more meetings between the two are expected during the year. Environmental issues, including the problem of acid rain, were expected to be high on the agenda.
The Reagan Administration had been cool to Canadian demands that the United States take action to eliminate acid rain drifting over Canada from this country’s northern industrial regions.
