Local News in Brief : Timothy Leary Kin to Stand Trial in Shooting
A Glendale judge has ordered the daughter of 1960s LSD guru Timothy Leary to stand trial in the attempted murder of her live-in boyfriend.
Susan Martino, 41, also known as Susan Leary, is accused of shooting Joel Chavira, 38, in the back of the head Dec. 18 as he slept in the Glendale apartment that they shared.
The bullet was removed from the base of Chavira’s skull by surgeons at St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
After hearing Chavira testify in a preliminary hearing last week, Glendale Municipal Judge Cheryl Krott ruled that there was sufficient evidence to bring Martino to trial.
Martino is being held in Sybil Brand Institute without bail. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Pasadena Superior Court on Feb. 3.
