THE LITTLE E: Speaking of Elvises . . . we’re happy to report that Elvis Costello will finally surface Feb. 7 with his debut Warner Bros. album. Titled “Spike,” it’s loaded with 14 new songs (an an extra track--”Coal Train Robbery”--on CD and cassette only). Selections include the first single, “Veronica” (written with Paul McCartney), “Let Him Dangle,” “Deep Dark Truthful Mirror,” “God’s Comic,” “Tramp the Earth Down,” “Pads, Paws and Claws” (also written with McCartney) “Miss MacBeth” and “Stalin Malone,” which is performed as an instrumental but has a lengthy batch of lyrics printed on the back cover.

The album was recorded in Hollywood, New Orleans, Dublin and London--and features contributions by members of the Pogues, Tom Waits’ band and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. . . . Heavy-metal comic Sam Kinison is doing a benefit concert Feb. 14 at New York’s Felt Forum. Who’s his valentine? Sally Marr, Lenny Bruce’s mom, who has been plagued by financial woes. “Sally supported me when I first got started,” Kinison said. “The money I’m hoping to raise is to make sure she’s taken care of. She’s a great lady and a big inspiration.” . . .

Local boys the Broken Homes beat out the Bullet Boys and Living Color as opening act for the Joan Jett tour, which opened last week in Washington (expect an L.A. date later in the spring). . . . And congrats to our colleague Paul Grein, who for the third time in five years, correctly predicted all five Grammy Album of the Year nominees--and tabbed four of the five Record of the Year entries.
