Sound Walls Vs. More Roadways

Share

It is very disconcerting to me to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic every day on Interstate 405. It is even more troubling to sit in traffic while watching our tax dollars being spent on big, block sound walls lining the freeway instead of pavement.

The residents on the other side of the block walls definitely benefit from the walls, although I think a greater benefit to the entire community would be increased road construction. My suspicion is that the residents were aware of the freeway proximity before they purchased their homes, specifically in Irvine where sound walls are currently being constructed between Culver Drive and Jeffrey Road.

Until such technology exists where it is possible to drive a car on sound walls, I think we should discontinue building the walls for the benefit and appreciation of a selected few.

I get freeway noise at my home in San Clemente; however, I do not expect or want our freeway improvements funds to be spent on a sound wall for me. I’d rather the money be spent on roads.
