A challenge to Walt Disney Co.’s purchase of KHJ-TV in Los Angeles was rejected late last week by the Federal Communications Commission. The challenger, a partnership called Los Angeles Television formed specifically to pursue the KHJ license, will appeal the ruling in federal court, said its Washington attorney, Mort Berfield. Disney’s general counsel, Joe Shapiro, said he was pleased with the ruling, but noted the matter wasn’t resolved. Disney bought KHJ from RKO General Inc. in December in a complicated transaction engineered by the FCC to end a 23-year dispute over RKO’s fitness to operate television and radio stations.
