Israel agreed to allow Egypt to raise its flag over the disputed Taba beach resort in a concession reflecting Jerusalem’s plans to return the 250-acre strip to Cairo’s rule. The flag-raising ceremony, expected to take place today, will not end Israeli occupation of the beach, which features a five-star hotel and a tourist village on the Gulf of Aqaba. Instead, it is an attempt to get talks moving on the last obstacles before the land is handed back, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alon Liel said. The Israeli owners want compensation for their luxury hotel and village.
