Pay Raise

What are our priorities here? Where are we going as a country? Why is everyone complaining about a 50% pay raise for federal officials while Dodger pitcher Orel Hershiser, who made $1.1 million last year, is asking for more than $2.4 million this year? At $2.4 million, how much money would Hershiser make for each pitch he threw? Think about it.

How come I never see letters complaining about the obscene salaries we are paying our sports personalities? Dan Marino, Miami Dolphin quarterback, earns somewhere in the area of $1.4 million per year. Does that mean he makes somewhere around $75,000 every time he’s sacked? I know a lot of homeless people that would love to get out on the football field and get sacked . . . just once.

We pay more for entertainment than we pay to those who run our government. We pay more for our entertainment than we do for our doctors, our nurses, our lawyers. Think about it.

I’ve always said that we should pay a congressman $250,000 per year, a salary that would attract top executives in some of our major corporations. Let’s get some people in Congress who are experienced at running a business, so they can run our country. We’re paying our congressmen meager salaries, and we’re getting meager results. Think about it.
