Fountain Valley Mayor Fred Voss has been arrested on suspicion of soliciting sex from an undercover policewoman posing as a prostitute, authorities said.
Voss, 52, was arrested at 8:55 p.m. Monday on Harbor Boulevard near Washington Avenue in Santa Ana, Police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said.
Voss was taken to the Santa Ana police station, where he was issued a citation for the alleged misdemeanor and released, Thomas said.
Voss today said only, “I’m referring everything to my attorney.” His attorney could not be reached for comment.
The mayor was one of 16 men arrested Monday night by police in an ongoing undercover operation targeting prostitution on Harbor Boulevard.
Voss was first elected to the City Council in April, 1982, according to the city clerk’s office. He was first appointed mayor in 1985, and was appointed to a second term last December. Voss works as a manager for the county’s General Services Division.
