Beverly Hills : Apartment Restrictions Set

The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday called for temporary restrictions on apartment construction in a pocket of Los Angeles surrounded in large part by the city of Beverly Hills.

The restrictions, to be drafted by the Planning Department, would prohibit new apartment developments that provide less than 1,200 square feet of lot area per unit. Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky, who represents the area, said the restrictions would “stop the demolition of some beautiful apartments in that neighborhood.”

The proposed restrictions, which would be in effect for one year, would also impose height limits, minimum front and side yards, new parking requirements, and landscaping provisions. The restrictions would apply to the area generally bounded by Beverly Hills on the north, Robertson Boulevard on the west, Pico Boulevard on the south and La Cienega Boulevard on the east.
