A 24-year-old San Diego man is being held on suspicion of using his pit bulldog to attack his former girlfriend and her boyfriend Wednesday night in the 3500 block of 42nd Street, police said Thursday.

Kregg Buesig allegedly harassed his former girlfriend with his pit bull about 9:30 p.m., police said. When the woman’s current boyfriend tried to intervene, Buesig commanded the dog to attack, police said. The couple, whose identities were not disclosed, were not injured.

By the time police responded, Buesig had fled into an apartment, where he kept officers at bay with the dog. Buesig surrendered after officers unsuccessfully fired electric Taser darts at him. He was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. Buesig’s last known address was in the 4200 block of Central Avenue. He is being held at County Jail in lieu of $16,500 bail.
