Wayne Gretzky of the Kings, who had nine points in three games, was named the NHL Player of the Week today for the period ending Feb. 5.

Gretzky scored a goal and three assists in an 8-5 loss against the Calgary Flames on Jan. 31. Two nights later, he had his first three-goal game of the season and added an assist in a 6-6 tie with the New Jersey Devils.

It was the 12th time in his career that Gretzky had collected four points in a game.

Gretzky is the starting center on the Campbell Conference team in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game in Edmonton.
