Glenna Collett Vare, a charter member of the women’s golf Hall of Fame, is dead at 85.

Vare, who died Friday, won the U.S. women’s national title six times between 1922 and 1935, including three straight from 1928-30.

She never turned professional, but the Ladies Professional Golfers Assn.’s Vare Trophy, given to the player with the lowest average on the women’s tour, is named for her.

She was named to the Hall of Fame in 1950.
