Heisman Trophy winner Barry Sanders would neither confirm nor deny a report in his hometown newspaper that he has decided to return to Oklahoma State for his senior season. The school recently was put on probation.
Sanders, in Philadelphia to receive the Maxwell Football Club trophy as the outstanding collegiate player of the year, was quoted in Tuesday editions of the Wichita (Kan.) Eagle-Beacon: “I’m planning on returning (to Oklahoma State). Right now I’m in school getting ready for next season and some exams.”
Sanders, who could make himself available to the National Football League, said he doesn’t remember making those statements.
