Eugene P. Fay, 86; Former L.A. Judge

Eugene P. Fay, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge from 1953 to 1963 and a Municipal judge for 10 years before that, died Wednesday in Rancho Mirage, where he had retired. He was 86.

Fay, a 1929 graduate of USC’s Law School, was in private practice until 1936, when he was named by then-Atty. Gen. Earl Warren as chief assistant insurance commissioner for Southern California. In 1943 he was appointed to the Los Angeles Municipal Court by Gov. Culbert L. Olson and to the Superior Court 10 years later by then-Gov. Warren.

He resigned from the bench to enter private practice and retired in 1977.

Survivors include a daughter, son and five granddaughters.
