A Roman Catholic lawyer--who appeared at recent inquests into alleged “shoot-to-kill” deaths of Irish Republican Army members by Northern Ireland security forces--was shot to death. Police said at least two men burst into Patrick Finucane’s Belfast house and opened fire, killing him and wounding his wife. There was no claim of responsibility, but authorities said the shooting bore the hallmark of Protestant paramilitary groups.
