Three people aboard a single-engine plane headed to San Diego from Palm Springs were believed killed in a fiery crash into a snow-covered mountain, authorities said. A search-and-rescue team, frustrated by weather conditions, was trying to reach the crash site on Volcan Mountain, northeast of Julian, authorities said. The Piper Comanche crashed and apparently burned in a storm, half an hour after taking off from Palm Springs Regional Airport, a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. The names of the victims were withheld until their remains could be recovered and relatives notified.
