Rural arts organizations in San Diego County have received $22,500 in an innovative grant program being tested by the James Irvine Foundation. Designed to to enhance cultural activities in rural areas, the grants will be used to help emerging groups, (especially ethnic-oriented activities), test new ideas and build communities through art. County Grant recipients are: California Carvers Guild/Fallbrook Chapter, $1,000; Coffee Concerts, Ramona, $1,000; Fallbrook Players, $2,500; the Friends of the Descanso Library, $520; Julian Arts Guild, $2,500; La Jolla/Pauma Indian Reservations, $4,000; Octad-One Productions, Spring Valley, $1,280; Ramona Art Guild and the Olde Ramona Town Hall Inc., $2,200, and the Rincon, San Luiseno Band of Mission Indians, $4,000. The San Diego Community Foundation administers the program for the Irvine Foundation.
