Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Man Fatally Shoots Wife, Self at Motel
A Fullerton man, reportedly despondent over unsuccessful attempts to reconcile with his wife, fatally shot her and then himself after an argument, police said Wednesday.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Chet Barry said Carlos Melendez, 31, went to the Travelodge motel in the 1700 block of East Katella Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Monday to see his wife, Sandra Melendez, 29, the hotel’s night clerk.
Witnesses said they heard the Melendezes, who had recently separated, arguing in the hotel’s office, and then three shots.
Barry said that Carlos Melendez, a wire assembler for Datum Inc. in Anaheim, shot his wife twice in the chest with a revolver, then shot himself once in the head.
