Navistar International Corp. reported that income fell 18% to $37 million for the first quarter. The Chicago-based truck and engine maker reported earnings of $45 million for the comparable period last year, including a one-time after tax gain of $24 million from the settlement of certain Canadian pension obligations and a $15-million charge against discontinued operations for the settlement of a class-action suit by former employees of Wisconsin Steel. The 1988 results reflect the start of production on new truck models. Revenue for the current quarter rose 3.6% to $956 million from a year ago.
