Local News in Brief : Commercial Planes May Use AF Base
- Share via
The Los Angeles Department of Airports and the Air Force have entered into an agreement that could lead to the joint civilian and military use of Palmdale Air Force Base.
The agreement, signed this week by airport commissioners and Air Force officials, could ultimately allow up to 400 takeoffs and landings by commercial airliners at the base. However, such use is still believed to be several years away.
“The commercial airlines will have to want to come, and right now they don’t want to,” said Pat Schoneberger, a spokesman for the Department of Airports. As the Antelope Valley continues to grow, it is expected that the Palmdale location will serve as a regional airport for commercial travelers while continuing to also serve the military.
