Bill Murray joins the ranks of superstars Eddie Murphy and Kevin Costner--actors trying to move behind the camera. Mr. Bill is preparing to direct and star in “Quick Change,” based on a 1981 novel by Jay Cronley about a man who thinks he has a foolproof bank heist plan--until fate begins working against him. One reviewer called it “ ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ meets ‘Animal Crackers.’ ”
Murray personally optioned and developed the property, which Creative Artists Agency is packaging. The agency has a screenplay adaptation by Howard Franklin (“Someone to Watch Over Me”) out for bids.
One studio exec tells us the project is one of the most sought-after in the industry: “Everyone wants it.”
Murray hopes to begin shooting by April, sources said.
