A newborn girl mistaken for a meowing cat and found shivering in a box on a back porch in 15-degree weather was thriving in a hospital Friday and was named Tiffany Kisha, after her two benefactors.

The infant was found in bitter cold Thursday evening by Tiffany Anderson, 16, who went out to the back porch to throw a bottle at what she thought was a meowing cat.

Instead, she found a box holding the blood-covered baby, who was wrapped in a towel. The shivering child’s umbilical cord was still attached.

Tiffany took the baby inside and, with her 10-year-old sister, Kisha, cleaned the infant, diapered her and warmed her over a heating duct.

The sisters’ mother, Denise, returned a short time later and called police.

The infant was reported to be healthy and in good condition Friday at Strong Memorial Hospital.
