Timothy Pulice, a senior at Cal State Fullerton, was chosen Sunday as the regional winner of the Irene Ryan Award for best acting at the American College Theater Festival.
Pulice will go to Washington for the national finals of the acting competition in April at the Kennedy Center, along with 11 other finalists. He competed against more than 100 others at the University of Nevada, host to this year’s theater festival.
Pulice’s victory at the regional level also earned him a $1,000 scholarship. He performed a monologue from “Cloud 9” by British playwright Caryl Churchill. The Irene Ryan Award is prestigious in college theater circles.
The 1988 national winner was Judith Hawking, who appeared last summer at the Grove Shakespeare Festival in Garden Grove.
