Carl Karcher Enterprises is planning to add 65 stores to its Carl’s Jr. restaurant chain this year.

The stores will be mostly in California, said Loren Pannier, Karcher Enterprises’s vice president, finance and administration.

Over the next 2 years, the company plans to build or acquire enough stores to add more than 100 company-owned restaurants to its inventory in the Western United States. That same area is also targeted to be the site of 20 more franchised Carl’s Jr. stores.

Those new units are largely planned for sections of Northern California and Arizona.

In addition, Karcher is planning to open 10 Carl’s Jr. restaurants in Osaka beginning in May, 1989. The company also is exploring other licensing opportunities in the Pacific Rim, Pannier said.

Karcher Enterprises now operates Carl’s Jr. restaurants in four states.
