Bo Jackson, who plays baseball and football very well, apparently does OK as a good Samaritan, too.

Ricky Miller and his girlfriend were driving through Kansas City, Mo., last weekend on their way to a wedding when their car collided with another.

“I was knocked silly,” Miller said.

Several cars passed without stopping before a man stopped, called the police and waited until they arrived.

Neither Miller nor his girlfriend recognized the man but when he mentioned something about leaving for spring training in a couple of days, Miller’s girlfriend asked, “Do you play for the (Kansas City) Chiefs?”

“No, ma’am,” a police officer said. “This is Bo Jackson.”

Miller said that Jackson stayed with him and his girlfriend until they were taken to a hospital.

“I really thought he was just a nice guy through the whole thing,” Miller said. “He was a real gentleman.”

“I told Wilt that all we needed was two guards and we could have a pretty good team,” Raveling said.

From Bill Tanton of the Baltimore Evening Sun: “Five days after Mets General Manager Frank Cashen spoke at his alma mater, Loyola College (in Baltimore), about the insanity of the money in professional sports today, he signed Dwight Gooden for $6.7 million, then the richest contract ever given a baseball player. At least Cashen knew what he was talking about.”

According to Tom Lasorda, Orel Hershiser wrote a check after signing his new contract, only to have the bank return it stamped:

“Insufficient funds. Not yours, but ours.”

Trivia answer: Smith, competing in the Dogwood Relays at Knoxville, Tenn., in 1983, was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct after taunting his opponents during the race and then mooning the crowd.
