THE COLLEGES : Women’s College Basketball Roundup : UC Irvine Falls, 79-70, to Fresno St.

UC Irvine’s Kathy Lizarraga connected on a career-high seven of 10 three-point shots but it was not enough as the Anteaters fell to Fresno State, 79-70, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Thursday at Fresno.

Fresno State led by as many as 15 early in the second half before Lizarraga cut the lead to three points, 67-64, with a three-pointer with about 2 minutes to play. The teams traded baskets to make it 71-68 before Fresno went on an 8-0 run and put the game away. Lizarraga led the Anteaters (7-17 overall, 3-12 in Big West play) with 21 points. Fresno is 17-9, 8-7.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s basketball:

Chapman 78, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 71--Julie King scored 15 points to lead the Panthers (12-12, 8-4) at Chapman. The Panthers dominated the boards, outrebounding the Mustangs, 44-27. Jackie Saunders had 10 rebounds to lead Chapman. Kim Rieff and Corine Sandfry each scored 11 points for the Panthers. Deborah Vettel scored 25 points for the Mustangs (12-12, 4-7).
