Obscene Telephone Calls Lead to a Rude Awakening

A persistent obscene telephone caller thought he had an interested listener on the line at 3:15 a.m. Monday when she agreed to meet him at a local Denny’s Restaurant.

So he called her back. Twice. And he even told her the address of the business where he was making the calls while working as a private security guard, police said.

Sgt. Patricia Hopkins, a veteran sex crimes investigator for the Simi Valley Police Department, kept the caller on the line until undercover officers arrested him, according to authorities.

Sgt. Danny Dunbar said Firouz Mobarez, 37, of Tarzana was booked at the East Valley station of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department on a misdemeanor charge of making annoying telephone calls.

Private Line

Hopkins received the first call at 3:15 a.m. on a private line and did not identify herself as a police officer, Dunbar said.

He said the caller had dialed the number at random. He began making sexual remarks but the man hung up when she suggested they meet, Dunbar said.

At about 3:40 a.m., the man called back. This time, after listening briefly to the man describe various sexual acts, Hopkins hung up. When he called back at 4:15 a.m., she kept him on the line until he was arrested at 4:43 a.m.

During the third call, Hopkins asked the caller why he called back and he replied: “Because you’re the first one who agreed to meet me,” Hopkins wrote in her report.
