FARMINGTON, Conn. — Former Sen. Lowell P. Weicker Jr., who had been considered a strong contender for the 1990 governor’s race, says he is done with politics and will work for a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting medical research.
The Republican said Monday that he has signed a one-year contract to serve as president and chief executive officer of Research! America “not to lobby but to . . . educate the American people (to) put medical research high on their list of priorities.”
“I have no political regrets, as I have no political ambitions,” said Weicker, who lost his Senate seat to Democrat Joseph I. Lieberman last November.
