Robert W. Kane, district manager of the Alhambra/San Gabriel branch of the Automobile Club of Southern California, has been elected chairman of the citizens advisory committee for the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission. The committee provides recommendations on county transportation issues, including how state and federal subsidies are allocated for highway and transit projects.

Hilda Solis of El Monte has been appointed to the State Legislative Task Force on the Under-Representation of Hispanics in the State Civil Service System. The task force examines how the civil service can recruit Latinos graduating from high school and college. Solis is president of the Rio Hondo College board of trustees.

Cora A. Cooper of Hacienda Heights has been named to the Los Angeles County Commission on Disabilities, which advises the Board of Supervisors on the health, employment, educational and recreational needs of the disabled.

Charlotte Manly has been named outstanding student in engineering at Caltech for 1989 by the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering. Manly, 21, is a junior from Hawaii.

Dr. A. E. Cady of Covina has been named president of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Assn., which represents 1,000 veterinarians in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Caleb E. Finch of Pasadena, professor in the neurobiology of aging at USC, has won a $30,000 Allied-Signal Inc. Achievement Award in Aging for biomedical research. Finch has been recognized for his studies of the role of hormones and neural factors in the aging process.

Donald L. Ward has been named president of Ambassador College in Pasadena. Ward, previously vice chancellor, is a professor of social science and theology.

Glenn A. Goodwin, professor of sociology at Pitzer College in Claremont, has been elected second vice president of the Southern California Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union.

James E. Haden, president of Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, has been named to the board of directors of the 46-member California Assn. of Catholic Hospitals.
