Social Worker’s Tragic Death
For the last 20 years we have watched the number of mentally handicapped people grow on our streets, while the funds for caring for them have been cut and then cut again. Feb. 21 one of these unfortunates killed psychiatric social worker Robbyn Panitch, who wanted nothing but to help and to live peacefully in this world. Her family, friends and fiance are bereft, and the family of David Scott Smith must live for the rest of their lives with the knowledge of this insane slaying.
One can only hope that our county supervisors, city council, governor and Legislature feel the responsibility for her death and adjust our financial priorities to see that this sort of thing never happens again.
