PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday named George Stewart, an assistant at Notre Dame, as special teams coach.
The Steelers last season gave one of the most dismal special teams performances in the league, allowing six blocked punts, an NFL single-season record.
Stewart, 30, replaces Dennis Fitzgerald, who was fired, and Jon Kolb, who was moved to conditioning and training coordinator.
Stewart was with Lou Holtz for six years, the last three at Notre Dame.
