College Roundup : Titans Lose to Cal on Home Run in Ninth
Jeff Kent hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to give California a 5-4 victory over Cal State Fullerton Sunday in a nonconference baseball game at Fullerton.
Kent, who attended Edison High School, hit the first pitch off reliever Sam Colarusso (2-1) over the left-field fence. It was his first home run of the season.
Cal (18-3) took a 2-0 lead in the third, but Fullerton (10-6) scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
In other nonconference action:
Portland 11, UC Irvine 9--The visiting Pilots scored nine runs in the seventh to erase a 7-1 deficit against the Anteaters (6-12-1).
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn men’s tennis:
Chapman 6, Cal State Bakersfield 3--Olivier Amerlinck defeated Will Marino to lead the Panthers (5-5, 4-1) at Bakersfield.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
UC Irvine 6, Wichita State 1--Courtney Weichsel defeated Gianarla DiLaura, 6-1, 6-1, to lead the Anteaters (5-9) at Nevada Las Vegas.
