A Sunland man was shot to death in his front yard by an acquaintance, Los Angeles police said Tuesday.

James A. Bailey was shot several times in the chest about 5:15 p.m. Monday near the door of a trailer home where he lived in the 10700 block of Nassau Avenue, Detective Marshall White said. He was taken to Pacifica Hospital of the Valley, where he was pronounced dead.

White said investigators identified a suspect in the shooting as Vanglis D. Garafolo, 31, of Tujunga, but did not know his whereabouts. The detective said that Garafolo and Bailey were acquaintances and that no motive for the shooting was yet known.

Witnesses told police that they saw a man meet Bailey in the yard in front of the trailer and then point a gun at him, White said. The two men began walking toward the trailer when the gunman shot Bailey, the detective said.
