From United Press International
LAS VEGAS —
An elevator repairman fell into an open elevator shaft Wednesday, caught his ankle in a piece of wire and dangled upside down eight floors from the ground for about an hour before he was pulled to safety.
Firefighters climbed down ropes to reach the man, not immediately identified, after his fall at the Royal Las Vegas Hotel. Working quickly in case the wire around his ankle worked free, the rescuers secured the worker to support ropes and eased him to safety.
